Greyhooded Kingfisher (Halcyon
leucocephala)
The Greyhooded Kingfisher is found
from south of the Sahara to the Limpopo province of South Africa.
Perches for a long time on a branch
while it searches for prey. When it spots prey it bobs its head
and dives to the ground to catch its prey.
The Greyhooded Kingfisher feeds on
insects and small lizards, which it beats on a branch to kill.
Habitat is woodland near a source of
water.
The Greyhooded Kingfisher nests in
a burrow dug in the top of an Aardvark burrow or the side of the
bank of a stream.
