Sycamore Fig ( Ficus sycomorus)
Grows up to 35 metres tall. The fruit
is in
close-packed clusters on branchlets. There
is a milky latex in all parts of the tree. A piece
of dry wood from this tree is used, by many
African tribes, as the starter block when making
fire with the friction method.

Large-leaved Rock Fig (Ficus abutilifolia)
Known as the rock-splitter. It grows
on rocks.
Roots are conspicuous white. (Mouse over the
picture on the left to see it without leaves in winter.)
Ripe fruits are eaten buy birds, monkeys,
baboons, Bushbabies, squirrels and Dassies.
Fruit that drops is eaten by Warthog,
Nyala, and bushpig.
