Threebanded Plover (Charadrius
tricollaris)
The Threebanded Plover is a small bird
with two black breast bands found on sandy river banks, shores,
dams and marshes throughout Southern Africa.
Feeds along shoreline on insects, worms
and crustaceans.
The Threebanded Plover can be found
in flocks of up to 50 birds or in pairs during the breeding season.
The nest is a shallow hollow scraped
on mud flats or gravel banks. Two pale creamy eggs with grey markings
are usually laid.
